3 Days Ol Pejeta Conservancy Rhino Tracking
Safari Type: Luxury

Overview

Escape the urban pulse of Nairobi for a profound and exclusive safari to one of Africa's most celebrated conservation triumphs. This 3-day luxury journey takes you to the heart of the Laikipia Plateau and the world-renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy, a private sanctuary where cutting-edge conservation meets unforgettable wildlife encounters. Your adventure begins with a scenic drive north, crossing the equator en route to the charming town of Nanyuki, nestled in the dramatic shadow of Mount Kenya. Ol Pejeta is not just a wildlife destination; it is a global beacon of hope, home to Kenya's largest population of critically endangered black rhinos and the last two remaining northern white rhinos on Earth. This itinerary offers an intimate, private exploration of its vast landscapes—from open grasslands to acacia woodlands—providing exceptional game viewing of the Big Five and a chance to participate in a powerful conservation story. Staying at the luxurious Sweetwaters Serena Camp, you will enjoy front-row seats to a waterhole frequented by wildlife, blending comfort with an authentic bush experience. This tour is designed for the discerning traveler seeking both the thrill of the safari and the deeper satisfaction of supporting a sustainable, ethical model for wildlife preservation.
Day1

Nairobi to the Equator & Ol Pejeta Conservancy

Your safari begins with a morning pickup from Nairobi. Embark on a scenic 4-5 hour drive north, ascending onto the Laikipia Plateau. Enjoy a fascinating stop at the Equator line, where you can witness a captivating demonstration of the Coriolis Effect and browse local crafts. Continue to the gates of the renowned Ol Pejeta Conservancy and check in to the luxurious Sweetwaters Serena Camp in time for lunch. After settling in, depart on your first afternoon game drive. Explore the conservancy’s diverse habitats as the day cools, spotting elephants, giraffes, plains game, and with luck, your first rhino. Conclude the drive with a spectacular African sunset before returning to camp for dinner, often with wildlife visiting the illuminated waterhole.

Your guide will track the Big Five across the plains, but the day’s highlights are deeply conservation-focused. You will have a poignant visit to the Northern White Rhino Enclosure to meet the last two individuals, Najin and Fatu, and learn about the scientific efforts to save the subspecies. Visit Baraka, the blind black rhino, at his specially adapted enclosure. Explore the Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary, the only place in Kenya to see these rescued primates. Pay respects at the grave of Sudan, the last male northern white rhino. Your picnic lunch will be enjoyed in a scenic spot within the conservancy before continuing your wildlife exploration, searching for lions, cheetahs, and the diverse herbivore populations.
